I’ve always felt a deep connection to and am continually inspired by the work we do through Chimnabai Udyogalaya, a place that’s been empowering women since 1914 when it was founded by my great-great-grandmother, Maharani Chimnabai II. It was originally set up to teach women skills like textile block printing, bookbinding, music, and even empowering skills like tailoring beauty parlour services. Over the years, the women in my family have supported the institution, making sure that the vision stays alive and continues to help women become more independent.
Under my mom, HH Radhikaraje Gaekwad’s leadership, Chimnabai Udyogalaya has expanded its outreach to include and support minority and inclusive communities. Sharing her passion for women’s empowerment and traditional crafts, I’ve been involved in helping the institution grow and take on new initiatives. One of the most meaningful ways I connected with the institution and the women involved was by enrolling myself in the tailoring course. It was such a great experience, not just learning the skill but really understanding the challenges and stories of the women who are part of the class. This experience helped me work towards making things better for them.
Being involved in Chimnabai Udyogalaya is important to me, and it has impacted me in so many ways. I love supporting women, artisans, and people from diverse communities. It’s not just about keeping traditions alive, but also about making sure everyone has the chance to grow and thrive, no matter where they come from. Through this initiative, we’re celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage and making sure that its benefits are shared with everyone, especially those who need support the most.

Padmaja: Heritage Woven Modern
I am deeply proud to share the story behind the clothing brand, Padmaja. This brand is more than just a label; it is a celebration of craftsmanship, dedication, and empowerment. The garments are entirely handcrafted by the talented women artisans of Shree Chimnabai Stree Udyogalaya, an organization, founded with the vision to uplift women through meaningful employment. Each piece is designed to reflect the beauty of traditional Indian textiles, merging heritage with contemporary aesthetics. By using natural dyes, handloom fabrics, and sustainable practices, Padmaja not only honors our rich textile legacy but also promotes mindful, eco-friendly fashion.
The women at Shree Chimnabai Stree Udyogalaya are the heart of this endeavor. Trained meticulously in weaving, stitching, and embroidery, they bring life to every Padmaja garment with their skill and creativity. This journey has been transformational—not only providing them with income but also fostering independence, confidence, and a sense of pride. Through Padmaja, we are not just creating beautiful clothing; we are building a community where women support each other and thrive. Each garment tells a story of resilience, artistry, and empowerment, making Padmaja a symbol of the collective strength and talent of Indian women.
